Hey guys,
I've been drawing sketch cards for Upper Deck and Marvel for a couple of years now. They are 2.5"x3.5" and are a really attractive and collectible product that we can display and sell at a convention table or in an online store.
This week I'll cover head drawing because that is one the most important things one can learn. There are three videos for this week:
Lecture videos:
First we'll learn
construction, proportions, and study the
planes of the head so we know how to build the head, simplify it and how light wraps around it.
Second, we'll review basic rendering and lighting notes before studying isolated facial features.
Thirdly, I'll walk you through how I create a sketch card (pencilling, inking,
and using
Watercolor How to handle transparency, building values in stages, controlling temperature, and edges.

Homework
- If you've never done this before, draw one page of sketches of the John Asaro head using the Loomis approach to construct it.
- If you've never done this before, draw one page of facial feature isolations using rendering techniques
- Four Sketch cards with the bust only (head, neck and shoulders), any character of your choice but try a variety if possible (female and male, and young and old), different angles or expressions would be nice also. The character can be from a comic, game, animation, or film. The only requirement is that they should be recognizable.
